The existing park, situated along the planned Atlanta Beltline Project, is a 3.4 acre site with amenities including a small community garden. Through a grant awarded from the Annie E Casey Foundation, Sustenance Design worked with Atlanta Food and Farm to lead the community in developing a comprehensive landscape plan. The goals of the stakeholders were to enhance and increase sustainable food production, education and community involvement in the park.

We facilitated workshops to invite neighborhood participation in conceptual design, and these meetings were crucial in steering the design process. The plan includes: an educational children’s garden equipped with a cob pizza oven, an orchard, a food forest that hosts chickens and bees, native bird habitat, and a pavilion and lawn for concerts, picnics and parties. Perennial vegetables such as asparagus, cardoon and sorrel are exhibited in spiral labyrinth underneath fruit and nut trees such as mulberry, pawpaw, persimmon, Chinese chestnut, apple, pear, plum, hazelnut, pomegranate, Nanking cherry, serviceberry and elderberry
